Born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1977; lives and works in the United States.
Based in New York, Aozaki has exhibited internationally, including at the Brooklyn Museum, Queens Museum, and Värmlands Museum in Sweden. His art make us rethink on the mass consumersociety and how we communicate in it. “From Here to There” (2012) is a map of Manhattan made up of maps that people drew for Aozaki when he stopped them on the street to ask for directions. For the performance-based work, “Value_Added” (2012), Aozaki took a can of corn that he had bought to over 100 supermarkets and repurchased it. At KENPOKU ART 2016, he will carry out his “Smiley Bag Portrait” in six cities where he will draw portraits of pedestrians on plastic shopping bags.
