NEST at Hitachi sea side

Takamasa Kuniyasu’s installation, The Seat of Ubusunagami in the Sunrise Shore is a paired piece with Dragon Pagota 2016 at Hitachiota Palty Hall in the mountainside. As other works, Kuniyasu installed this work all by himself, incorporating 150 logs, 3000 ceramic blocks and 40 steel pipes. The artist named this work after the region’s name, Hitachi city(literally means “the sun rises”) in connection with the rising sun at the beach where the region’s guardian deity inhabits. As the title suggests, this work acts as an object to which the spirit is summoned by the local’s prayer. This prayer translates simple yet powerful primordial sentiments that transcend the system of religion and art.
