TetraPad

Visiting the Kenpoku region for research, Nitipak Samsen became interested in concrete vanishing wave blocks (commonly called “tetrapod” in Japan). The interlocking concrete structures are often criticized for impairing beautiful scenery. However, Samsen found their forms humorous and decided to create colorful blocks with a material similar to one used for beach balls. Adding “colors” to expressionless industrial objects allows viewers to observe the oceanic scenery in a different light, possibly something more on a lighter note.(It was initially designed as an interactive piece. However, due to safety concerns this artwork is now displayed for viewing only. Please be advised touching artwork is not permitted.)
