kenopsia (void of human life)

Indian artist Mithu Sen will present installations at two locations, Tenshin Memorial Museum of Art and the former Fujigaoka Elementary School in Kitaibaraki. While an increasing number of public schools are closing down because of the population decline in Japan, In India thousands of students are unable to access basic school facilities due to overpopulation and other reasons. For KENPOKU ART 2016, Sen researched the Kenpoku region and observed the contradictory circumstance between the two countries. Her project dreams a virtual exchange between these two different contexts “that juxtaposes two kinds of parallel voids”. The artist inherits the spirit of Tenshin, who built a close relationship with Tagore. She presents a drawing installation at the Tenshin Museum and reopens the former Fujigaoka Elementary School that comes to life with children’s voices from India.
