Barter Exchange Project 2016
Barter Exchange Project
For a period of two months, Keisuke Yunoki traveled around six cities and towns in the Kenpoku region, bartering goods with people he met. This project is part of the Barter Project, in which the artist has traveled across Japan and overseas since 2009, bartering goods. Involving the locals and passersby, Yunoki documents each story woven by chance, and those experiences form his art. It is not a story of Straw Millionaire, a man exchanging goods with more valuable products. His project rather reveals how objects lose their monetary value and start negotiating a new meaning through bartering that involves people’s interaction and communication. Through this project, Yunoki shows us a new mode of experiencing art.
