Sound of TapBoard 2016

Sound of TapBoard

In tap dancing, the phenomenal steps of the dancer create rhythmical sounds. But what if the steps produced sounds other than those of the shoes hitting the floor? This artwork offers an unusual and surprising experience. Dance your steps on the TapBoard, and enjoy the sounds you hear. This interactive work incorporates digital elements into analog actions, and thus creates sounds that are wholly different from the direct physical sounds. It won the Grand Prix in the Product/Service category at the “3331α Art Hack Day 2015,” an event where individuals with diverse skills form teams in a short period of time, exchange ideas and realize them. This festival presents the latest version of the TapBoard. Members are Ippei Yonezawa (tap dancer), Neji Sato (designer), Masaru Mizuochi (programmer), Ayaka Ikezawa, and Minoru Nakano (engineer).
