WOOD STOCK: From the ceiling to the walls to the floor, the whole of this room is made of wood produced in this region of Miwa, which boasts an active forestry industry. This room that brims with the aroma and warmth of wood has been transformed by magma (Jun Sugiyama and Kenichi Miyazawa) into a curious shopping and resting area. When the team, who specialize in funny and colorful worlds composed of diverse materials, saw this room, their first impression was that they were in a huge sauna. As if to accentuate this impression, their art that is made entirely of darker and lighter wood, is also accompanied by peaceful tree-related sounds, such as xylophones and the sound of the forest. Is it harmony that this artwork is aiming for? Or nonsensical humor? magma has also revamped the former headmaster’s office, and installed artwork in various places in the school building.
