Classroom of Ribbon around a Bomb

Yamamoto’s “Ribbon Around Bomb” (2011) depicts a story of an ordinary girl’s school life and the little happenings around her. This work, which reflects the artist’s fresh insight, was published for the first time in her career and became one of her most prominent works. At a classroom of the former Miwa Junior High School, the original key frames of the cartoon will be re-edited and will create a space for the new story. Since Yamamoto was born in Ibaraki, the time and space expressed in her work overlaps that in the exhibition space. Such school space is familiar to all of us. This installation incorporates a new method, yet conjures up nostalgic memories.
