Life Record 2011-
Miyahara’s artwork revolves around the traces of trees’ growth, traces left in objects used by people, and ornaments that preserve such beauty. The ornaments made of wooden slats, tree bark and old wood gathered in Daigo town, are not only containers and tools, but also pieces of sculpture. The delicate ornaments that maximize the particular quality of wood and lacquer are not only beautiful in themselves, but together create a serene world in the exhibition space that is very much Miyahara’s own. The artwork also seems to be presenting a style of ornaments that would be in keeping with the region and its people’s lives. The building itself is run by Reijunkan, an NPO that promotes Japanese lacquer; and the room opposite the venue houses a permanent exhibit which allows visitors to experience lacquer.
