Etsuko Yakushimaru composed music using the DNA of a microorganism called “Synechococcus,” a type of cyanobacteria that has long inhabited Ibaraki Prefecture, and even embedded the music piece into the chromosome of the microorganism. She presents not only the music piece but also the new microorganism produced through gene modification as artwork at KENPOKU ART 2016. The artwork will diffuse based on a genetic mechanism in the future. Music composed using genetic engineering was chosen as the theme song for the first time in the world at KENPOKU ART 2016.
