signmaker NAKAZAKI 2016
For Tohru Nakazaki, born in Ibaraki Prefecture, the Kenpoku region is carved in his memory by the 14 place names he was accustomed to as a child. So for KENPOKU ART 2016, he evokes the memory of this historically familiar land with an installation of signs of place names––such as Miwa, Suifu, Satomi, and Kanasago––that no longer exist due to the consolidation of municipalities. The lightbox-type signs assembled inside a vacant store of Hitachi-Taga shopping district strikingly amplify the image of these words, sure to inspire a special feeling in the viewers’ mind. The exhibition continues on the second floor.
